Digital Draft 2

Using the feedback that I was given I created another digital draft. This time I have used the space wisely and made every article eye catching by having them in different colours but keeping them blue because of my chosen colour scheme. Although the main image needs to be cropped so that it is a MCU but it still stands out from the other images. I have used questions as the skylines to draw my target audience in and make them want to know the answer 'couriosity killed the cat' kind of thing. I have included the Wyke logo so that my target audience is sure of which college magazine it is and kept to my colour scheme again by useing the purple for my masthead. Wyke Sixth Form College is serious when it comes to raising money for charity so I added an article featuring a charity so the students can get involved and also buy the magazine making profit. I have used articles which mt target audience will enjoy and like for instance 'Drama department...' which will grab their interests as the T'Mobile adverts are quite popular and people will want to get involved and want to know more. My anchorage is the 'A* student...' article which focuses on the educational and social life of being a student.

Digital Draft 1

This is my first digital draft which I created on Photoshop from the images that I took. This draft is just an idea of the kind of magazine which I am going to produce. The reader can easily see the MCU image and the other smaller images included, I chose not to use many images as I didn't want the cover to look messy. I decided to stick to my colour scheme by having a purple masthead, blue included in the image and green as the skylines. With having not that much information on the front cover the reader can easily see which skyline belongs to which image so that there is no confusion. I wanted the skylines to be appealing to my target audience so I added articles which appeal to everyone, some with action, some with art and some with voting. The voting article is a good way to get the students involved in the magazine and college because they are contributing to their college by having their say on what they want there e.g. a statue. The main image and the smaller image of the library link with each other due to the anchorage 'PE Department...' this is to grab my target audiences attention if they haven't heard of it before.

Choice of College and my Target audience

My choice of college for my preliminary task is Wyke Sixth Form College because the new buildings and facilities that have been built make the college an even more exciting place to study and be involved. The college has excellent courses and events that are held so the magazine would be an excellent idea to promote them and make even more people aware. Also the achievements that are gained here are very good and with the magazine secondary students will be able to see them and become interested in the college making it a must place to be, along with its friendly staff and students.

My target audience will be 16-19 year olds as that is the main age group at the college. They will also be male and female, who are in the E category for the National Readership Survey social grades and be in the self actualisation group because the students want to succeed and become someone. With this target audience the magazine will benefit because the articles involved will be relevent to the students thus making it a popular magazine with essay tips and exam handy 'need to knows'. The magazine will have a wide variety of articles so that all my target audience will benefit with some articles being wrote by them themselves.

Front Cover Conventions

L.I.I.A.R Analysis

Language: The magazines masthead 'College Lifestyle' shows that the magazine is more involved in the education side to the college but also the different lifestyles within. It is the main point on the front cover along with the image as they are both big and take up much of the cover. The cover line gives the image a sense of meaning by linking each other with the name 'Jeffrey 'Assassin' Campbell'.

Institution: The institution is the college itself as they have the power to include what they want and publish which articles are important. A big brand wouldn't be interested in publishing the magazine as it isn't their target audience which would mean a loss in sales. The college publish the magazine because they know that the magazine will sell making them money instead of losing it.

Ideology: The ideology of the magazine would to inform the students of whats happening at the college and upcoming events. Also the cover line states how good the person in the image is so would attract other students to buy it so that they can find out how they can become involved.

Audience: The audience for the magazine is students that attend the college as they are articles involving some of the students and events that have happened. On the other hand students from outside of the college may have interest in the magazine as they may be an article included which they feel they can relate to.

Representation: The representation of the magazine is to show what the college has to offer to its students and show the educational side and also the lifestyle that comes with the college. It also helps students along with their studies and help them achieve their goals and reach their dreams.

L.I.I.A.R Analysis

Language: The title for the magazine is big and bold which makes it stand out the most and thus making it more reliable to be seen from far away. The word 'College' is the biggest so informing the reader that the magazine focuses on the college life and the education side to college. The anchorage links to the image which gives it meaning and also gives the reader a little taster about the article.

Institution: The institution would be the college itself as it is their target audience. If a big brand company like Vogue or NME printed it no one would read it as it wouldn't be their target audience thus making a loss, which isn't what they would want. But if the college were to publish the magazine then their target audience would be fulfilled as their main buyers would be the students.

Ideology: The ideology of the magazine is to inform the students about the college and help promote events occurring. The ideas of the magazine are shown on the front page so the reader will know what to expect in the magazine.

Audience: This magazine's target audience would be students who go to the college because otherwise it wouldn't make any profit as outsiders wouldn't be interested in the college articles. On the other hand people who attend the college may be persuaded to buy the magazine if they see an article they were involved in, so this would be the targeted audience.

Representation: The representation of the magazine is to show the college interacting with the students and their education. The magazine shows sport and has articles on subjects and events that have happened or happening in the college. It is there to inform the students and also help with contact information.
